Verbier Skiing

Verbier is a very stylish, cosmopolitan ski resort that has a vibrant nightlife as well as some of the most challenging terrain in Europe. The mountain boasts some stunning views from the top, and the runs are great for those who want to hire a guide and explore the off-piste slopes. It’s also great for those who want to try off-piste for the first time, as the mountain has some easier, intermediate backcountry. The village is great for après ski and has some really lovely restaurants that are both tasty and incredibly charming. The charm can be compared to the village in Vail Colorado. This is definitely the place for people who like to work hard and play hard.

The Mountain

Verbier is vast and very spread out, so having a clear vision of where you want to end up is a good idea before you set out for the day. If you are looking for a small, underrated area, be sure to head over to Savoleyres which can be reached by gondola from the northwest end of the village. If you are looking for some thrilling runs, head up the Les Attelas cable car to hit some steep, off-piste only runs. Most of the off-piste runs can be accessed easily by the many lifts on the mountain, as Verbier has recently invested heavily in the mountain and improved its lifts, gondolas and cable cars in recent years. This also means you won’t have to worry about big lift lines during your ski day. For snowboarders and freestyle skiers, Verbier has the 1936 Neipark. This terrain park features kickers, rails, boxes, hips, step-ups and gaps. There is even a giant airbag jump where you can try out new moves without hurting yourself.

Dining

Some complain that the restaurants get overcrowded because there aren’t enough in the village to cater to all the visitors. While this might be true to an extent, a lot of new restaurants have sprung up in recent years. Still, it’s a good idea to book a reservation before you head out for the evening. Be sure to try out Chez Dany which is a charming, rustic old chalet with really tasty cuisine. Another great restaurant is the self-service Italian at the top of Savoleyres. There you will find traditional dishes for a good value. For a quick snack and drink, head to the Igloo which is a tiny bar at the Mont Fort top station. If you are interested in fancy, fine-ding, book a table at the Chalet d’Adrien for seriously good, 5-star gourmet food.

Après Ski

The après ski scene in Verbier is bumping, but also quite pricey. Great Skiing offers deal to hopefully reduce that cost for you. For a drink on the slope, check out the Rocks bar at Ruinettes. Here you can hang out, enjoy one of many different drinks and just relax after a long ski day. Other on-mountain bars that have popular après ski are the tents of 1936 and Chalet Carlsberg. For the younger crowd, check out the pub Mont-Fort that has live sports on a widescreen TV and a range of spirits, beers and wines.
