St Anton Skiing

St Anton is another Austrian ski resort that has really fantastic, tough runs and a legendary nightlife. This is a great spot for the young who like to ski hard and play harder. This is not the place to go if you have a group of skiers with varied levels, it’s a place to challenge yourself and become a better skier by plunging into the steep, deep off-piste runs on the mountain. In the evening, the town really gets going with a myriad of great bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants to choose from. Great Skiing features some of the world’s best bars and restaurants.

The Mountain

What is really great about the mountain of St Anton is the challenging terrain and abundant snowfall. For beginners, there’s a nursery slope at Nasserein that is less steep than other beginner runs. After that you will find a couple easy blue runs, but there really aren’t very many runs for beginners to progress to. For intermediate skiers with a taste for adventure, there are plenty of great runs to choose from. There are some challenging pistes to choose from, some which have bumps and narrow chutes to try out. When the visibility is poor, take the long tree lined run to the valley. If you are an expert skier, you will really love St Anton. It is comparable to Chamonix in terms of challenging terrain, and many experts hold this mountain dear to their hearts. The off-piste skiing is truly endless and variable, and it’s recommended that you hire a guide in order to make the most of your day (and to stay safe).

Dining

The old village is really sweet and has a car free center, giving it a traditional charm. It can be crowded, especially in the evenings, but it is still full of character. The restaurants in the village are great, and offer a wide variety of cuisines to suit every taste. One favorite is the Hazienda, which is a basement restaurant in the main street where you can enjoy good, hearty foods and cold drinks. For on-mountain dining, you also have many different options. For a fancy, expensive meal, check out the Verwallstube at Galzig where you can enjoy beautiful views out of the huge windows. Other very welcoming restaurants are The Arlberg Taja and the Ulmer Hutte, as well as the large self-service restaurant at Galzig itself.

Après Ski

The nightlife in St Anton starts in the mid afternoon and doesn’t end until the early hours of the morning. Be sure to check out the incredibly popular Mooserwirt for a cold beer. Another favorite is the Krazy Kanguruh for an après ski drink. If you’re looking for a quieter, more lounge-y drink, head over to Griabli where you can sit on the terrace and overlook the happenings at Mooserwirt.
