Kitzbuhel is a great resort for intermediate skiers, people who love luxurious getaways and singles who want a fantastic party town. Skiing is relatively new to this old mining town, but it has quickly risen as one of the best ski destinations around. When you combine world-class skiing with fantastic restaurants and a bumping nightlife, you end up with a resort that is perfect all-around. It also has a great range of accommodations to suit every budget.
The Mountain
Kitzbuhel is huge and sprawling, which means you could go your entire trip without skiing the same run twice. The mountain has over 100 miles of runs, 54 gondolas and ski lifts and peaks as high as 2,000 feet above sea level. The runs are split fairly evenly between beginner, intermediate and advanced. In addition to the great runs to choose from, there are also many great off-piste opportunities for expert skiers and true powderhounds. The backcountry is easily accessible from most lifts so that you never have to look very far to get a thrill. The mountain also looks after its beginners and children by offering really easy runs and a great ski school. You will even find terrain parks that cater to every level skier and boarder and feature kickers, rails, obstacles and more.
Dining
Kitzbuhel has a huge range of different culinary delights that will satisfy even the pickiest eater. In addition to all the choices offered in the village, there are numerous on-mountain dining options to choose from. There are traditional Tyrolean restaurants, five star dining, snack bars, mountain huts and more. Be sure to sample local cuisine at least once, such as cheese dumplings and pancake soup. At night, the village has so many options that it can be hard to settle on one restaurant. Make sure you ask around for recommendations to find a restaurant with cuisine you are interested in eating that night or look on Great Skiing for the latest reviews.
Après Ski
As mentioned before, Kitzbuhel is legendary for its après ski and nightlife. St Anton is another Austria city offering similar amenities. The party gets started as soon as the lift closes and goes on until the early morning hours. After dinner, walk around and stop into one of many lounges, pubs and bars to socialize and share stories over a couple drinks. After that, jump over to one of the villages many discothèques to get your dance on. Remember to keep an eye on the time though, as you could end up dancing until the sun comes up!
